Unlike the old DOT 5 brake fluid which was silicone based, the NEW DOT 5.1 does NOT use silicone. The NEW DOT 5.1 is glycol based like the DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid.
The NEW DOT 5.1 has a higher boiling point compared to DOT 4 and is suitable for performance use.
The DOT 5.1 is a less viscous fluid formulated for use in ABS systems and low temperatures. The recommended change cycle for brake fluid is every two years.
